We use Campfire constantly at 37signals. We're in it all day long. It's where we gather, collaborate, communicate, and share in real-time. We don't know how we'd run our business without it.
Today we launched a few great new features we think you're really going to like. Now it's easier to spot what's important and find images in the transcript browser.
Chat highlights
The first improvement are chat highlights. Highlights let you mark any line in the chat room with a star. Those starred chats then appear in a special "highlights" section of the transcript letting anyone in your group see what you and others thought was interesting or important on that day. Highlights are a great way to save a chat you'd like to refer to later or emphasize in your group.
To highlight a chat, just hold your mouse over any line in the chat room and click the grey star icon to the right as shown below.
Highlighted chats appear on the Files, Transcripts, and Search tab for each day. It's a great way to see the really essential content for that day at a glance. Here's what the new chat highlights looks like:
Image thumbnails
In addition to the highlights we also made some other improvements to the transcripts. We cleaned-up the attached files section and now show thumbnail images for any graphic files that were uploaded to the chat. This makes it really easy to find images in previous day's chats. Before you only saw a sea of icons. Now you see a crop of the image. Much better.
A cleaner header
Finally, we streamlined the header for each day in the transcript view making it cleaner, clearer, and easier to scan. Here's what it looked like before:
And here is the newly designed transcript header with less colors and less visual clutter:
We're excited about this release and think it really makes Campfire chat transcripts much more useful. We hope you enjoy it and thank you for using Campfire.
